Hi everyone. I’m in RCIA and trying to understand priesthood better beyond what I see at Sunday Mass. Our parish priest said he’s “diocesan,” but then we had a visiting priest who introduced himself as a Franciscan and talked about his “order.”
I’m confused about what changes in daily life, obedience, and what they’re allowed/expected to do. Like: do both celebrate the same sacraments? Do they both answer to the bishop? Do religious priests move around more? And does it affect confession or spiritual direction who you go to?
I’m not asking to compare who’s “better,” just trying to understand the real difference between diocesan and religious priests and what it means for parish life. Thank you!
