Hi everyone. I’m a practicing Catholic in my late 20s and I feel stuck between a few big life directions—career changes, the question of marriage vs. staying single for now, and whether God might be calling me to something I’m not seeing. I pray, but half the time I’m not sure if I’m hearing God or just my own anxiety. I also feel pressure because friends seem “settled” and I’m still discerning.
I try to do the right things—Mass on Sundays, confession when I can, some Scripture reading—but when I’m trying to make an actual decision (where to live, what job to take, whether to date someone seriously), I don’t know what “God’s will” is supposed to look like. Is it a feeling? A sign? A door opening? And how do you avoid confusing God’s voice with fear, people-pleasing, or just wanting control?
If anyone has practical Catholic steps, resources (saints, prayers, Church teaching), or personal stories, I’d really appreciate it. I want to be faithful, but I also don’t want to be paralyzed by overthinking.
