I’m struggling with distractions during prayer and I’m not sure what’s normal vs. what I’m doing wrong. I try to pray every day (usually at night), but my mind jumps to my to-do list, texts, random worries, or even silly memories. Sometimes I catch myself “saying” prayers while thinking about something else entirely. I feel guilty and then I get frustrated and want to stop.
I’ve tried quiet music, a candle, and reading a Psalm first, but I still drift. I also have a busy schedule and I’m often tired, so maybe that’s part of it. Do you have Catholic ways to deal with distractions—like specific prayers, practical habits, or advice from the saints? How do I refocus without spiraling into scrupulosity or giving up?
