Hi everyone. I’m a 26-year-old Catholic trying to discern whether God might be calling me to religious life. I love my parish, Eucharistic adoration, and serving with the poor, and when I’m in prayer I sometimes feel this quiet pull toward “more.” At the same time, I also have normal dreams—marriage, kids, a career—and I don’t want to confuse a temporary spiritual high with an actual vocation.
I’ve been going to Mass regularly and trying to pray daily. I’ve also started reading about different orders, but it’s hard to know what’s real guidance vs. just my personality liking the idea of a simple life. I’m also scared of making the “wrong” choice and disappointing God or my family.
What are practical ways to know if religious life is right for me? What are signs of a true call, and what are warning signs that it’s not? If you’ve discerned this path (whether you entered or not), I’d really appreciate your insight.
